The order they are meant to be used

Vocabulary and Kanji first — they teach each other. Then Grammar, once you have words to put in a sentence. Then the Mock Tests, to find out what you actually know under the clock. The weak areas the mock finds are what you revise before the exam.

Each book also stands alone. Start wherever you are.

Who it is for

• Sitting N5. You have a date, and you want to know whether you are ready before you find out in the hall.
• Starting from zero. The books assume nothing, and the kana are printed inside.
• Self-study or class. Written to be worked through alone, and used alongside a language school just as well.

What is and is not in the box

• Printed books, with Japanese, romaji and English throughout.
• You write in them — the Kanji book has tracing and freehand squares.
• The mock listening audio plays through the free Lengaki app, not a CD.
• It is JLPT N5 only. N4 and above are not covered.
